Trudeau's Government offers homeowners relief from the Liberal Carbon Tax, admitting policy isn't working

The Federal Liberals announced today, that they will be pausing carbon taxes for heating oil for three years in a bid to accelerate the switch to using heat pumps.

As many of you are keenly aware, this was the justification they used for introducing the carbon tax in the first place, that it would "encourage" people to make decisions that lead to lower CO2 emissions because of the cost imposed by the government.

This move, is an admission said policy isn't doing what they said it would do, and in reality its making life drastically less affordable for Canadians.

Furthermore, there is no pause for carbon taxes on natural gas heating. Meaning there will be little relief for homeowners in Western Canada, where natural gas is predominately used. This is targeted tax relief for households in Eastern Canada.

They are even doubling the amount of money "given back" to rural Canadians. In a minority parliament its hard to not interpret policy decisions like this a naked attempt to buy votes.

We're sure many households will find good ways to use their money that the government has so "graciously" decided to give back to them, but one doesn't have to look to far to see the massive cost this elaborate shell game has burdened Canada, and especially Alberta with.

In the next federal elections, Canadians will have to decide if they want more of the same, or a government that will stop playing these games.
